The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Silver Spring is one of three stakes in the Maryland suburbs. A stake is an official representation of the global church in the neighborhood. The national Latter Day Saints (LDS) organization is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Chesapeake Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints is one of the larger churches in the area, with more than 800 members. The church, led by Bishop Jason Fox, offers a variety of programs for its members, including study groups and Sunday school for all ages. It also houses a familiy history center, where people of all faiths can trace the lineages of their families.
The Church of Jesus Christ of The Latter Day Saints, often referred to as the LDS church, was started by Joseph Smith Jr. in 1820. This church is located in a simple, beautiful brick structure sitting on the corner of Contee and VanDusen. The Pastor is Mark Ratzlaff. There is no name or signage on any part of the exterior building denoting the church. However, there is a small paper on a window pane stating that it is the Church of the Latter Day Saints and times that it meets.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Kentlands was established in 1993, and offers local Mormons a place to worship and study. Its core values and activities involve strengthening families, service to others, missionary work, humanitarian aid, lifelong learning and good citizenship.
The Potomac Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is located on Falls Road and is led by Bishop Richard Marriott.
The church has services and Sunday School every Sunday at 10:20am. The Priesthood, Relief Society and Young Women & Men meetings are at 11:10am on Sundays and the Sacrament Meeting is at 12:10pm on Sunday.
