The Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for the prevention, control and eradication of diseases for the benefit of the citizens of the United States. The department through its offices provides research, public health, health insurance, and food and drug safety services, as well as financial aid. It focuses on the reduction of risk factors, prevention of chronic diseases, and promotion of wellness in children and adults in the community through the Communities Putting Prevention to Work project. The Department of Health and Human Services Administration on Aging division provides long-term care and residential services to senior citizens throughout the U.S.
