Founded by Oak Park native Michael Carmody, Opportunity Knocks is working to become a key resource agency for the needs of the local young adult developmentally disabled community. At its space in the River Forest Community Center, Opportunity Knocks offers sessions that include recreation and fitness, self-advocacy training and hobby development. This nonprofit relies heavily on private donations for operations and hosts popular fundraisers in Oak Park and the surrounding area like The KG Classic softball tournament, Hoops for Troops, The OK Chili Cook Off, The OK FriendRaiser and The OK Interest Inventory.
