Art Schools in Berkeley, California

Kala Art Institute offers traditional art classes as well as residency programs and fellowships that allow artists with fewer resources to continue to develop their art. It also hosts an artists-in-schools program where public school students throughout Alameda County get to work with artists at the institute in a variety of disciplines.

A community arts center, Expression Gallery shows a rotating list of local artists, has a schedule of engaging classes and hosts a variety of arts-centered events. The public is welcome to browse and participate in events like book and poetry readings, craft shows and film reviews.  The calendar of events is posted on the website.

Sticky Art Lab, located in central Berkeley, is a family and children's art "laboratory" that offers art classes, programs and workshops. Families and children can drop into classes for just $8 a person. Family lab time offers families a chance to paint, create arts and crafts projects, make jewelry, comic strips and more. The art lab also hosts birthday party packages. 

Sherilyn Tharp offers woodcarving classes to anyone who would like to design and build their own furniture. The beginning woodcarving class is typically made up of four three-hour classes, while intermediate woodcarving and sculpture can be taken as a single class or a group of five classes. She also offers private one-on-one sessions on an hourly basis. In addition, Sherilyn Tharp is the co-owner of Tharp-Hamilton Woodworking.
