MSP started in 1921 after local groups bought the Speedway racetrack out of bankruptcy naming it Speedway Field. The name soon changed to Wold-Chamberlain Field in honor of World War I pilot’s Cyrus Foss Chamberlain and Ernest Groves Wold. In 1948 the airport was renamed Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
