Spokane International Airport is the second-largest airport in the state of Washington that serves the communities of Northern Idaho, Eastern Washington, Coeur d’Alene and Spokane. The airport was used during World War II to train units on new aircraft being developed by Boeing. In 1945 the land was developed into a commercial airport. The current name was given in 1960 but the airport code remains GEG as a nod to the original name Geiger Field.

In the next 5-10 years the airport hopes to add another concourse and more non-stop flights to the east coast. Currently, the airport contains 24 gates within its three concourses. There are seven airlines that fly to and from GEG Airport serving many domestic and international destinations. Top destinations from Spokane are Seattle, Denver and Portland.

Ground transportation at GEG includes eight rental car companies, seven bus and shuttle companies, taxis and numerous hotel shuttle options. The Greater Rochester International Airport is in Monroe County, New York and serves five area counties. The airport is about three miles from the center of Rochester, New York. The airport started small when it was built in 1927, but its proximity to New York City and World War I and II brought rapid growth to the area. By 1963 the airport consisted of two concourses with ten gates between them. 1977 saw the introduction of jet ways, expansion continued through the 1980’s and with this growth came a new name. Great Rochester International Airport got is name in 1985.

Des Moines International Airport is a dual civilian/military airport located three miles from central Des Moines. The airport opened in 1933 and the first commercial terminal followed shortly. A new terminal was completed in 1950 and the current structure was constructed in 1970. In 1986, the airport adopted its current name.

McGhee Tyson Airport got its name from a United States Navy pilot. Charles McGhee Tyson disappeared during patrol duty in World War I and the airport was named to honor his memory in 1927. The original 60-acre piece of land was relocated to the 351 acres it currently resides on in 1935. Improvements on the airport have continued through the decades, with the most recent large construction occurring in 2000 for about $70 million. This round of work added two more concourses that spawned 12 gates. In 2009 a new food court brought new dining options to passengers.

TYS Airport is in the Knoxville area of Tennessee, in Blunt County, a short 30-minute drive from Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the second level of the airport is decorated to illustrate the beauty of the area.
