Established in 1967, Lion Country Safari is an open-road animal attraction that features a water sprayground, as well as several rides. The drive-through safari and walk-through amusement park offers animal displays, encounters and feeding experiences. It includes more than 800 animals, such as lions, zebras, chimpanzees and giraffes. Lion Country Safari is one of the largest, family attraction venues in South Florida that has over 500,000 visitors every year. It operates a nearly 50-acre entertainment area that administers various exhibits. The safari s facilities include a veterinary hospital, animal demonstration theater, summer day camp and gas station, as well as several gift shops and food outlets. It oversees a staff of more than 180 employees. The safari is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. In addition, Lion Country Safari conducts ChimpanZoo, which is a program that features the research, enrichment and education of captive chimpanzees.
