Federation of State Medical Boards, located in Euless, Texas, is a nonprofit organization representing the 70 medical boards of the United States and its territories, including the state boards of osteopathic medicine. The organization provides a centralized, uniform process for state medical boards to obtain a verified, primary source record of a physicians core medical credentials. This service is designed to lighten the workload of credentialing staff and reduce duplication of effort by gathering, verifying and permanently storing the physicians or physician assistants credentials in a central repository at the FSMBs offices. The service also obtains primary source verification of medical education, postgraduate training, examination history, board action history, board certification and identity.
