Charleston County Sheriffs Office is approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. It has criminal investigations, fugitives and extraditions, warrants, patrol, communications, and security and administrative services divisions. The department also has a records division that is responsible for dispositions, chauffeurs licenses and criminal background checks in accordance with the law. Charleston County Sheriffs Office s operations division maintains care and custody of inmates housed in the detention center. It has a Special Weapons and Tactics team that provides a coordinated response to gunman situations, terrorist incidents, security operations and civil disturbances.
